| CONGRATULATIONS, CARLISLE WILDCATS, FOR EARNING NATIONAL MIDWEST CHAMPIONSHIP RUNNER-UPS!!!
YOU ARE AWESOME!
What can we say but WOW!! The Wildcats went to Kansas City to experience something they will never forget. On Thursday there were opening ceremonies with 140 teams and over 7000 people. Teams came from Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska and Colorado. They participated in skill challenges for throwing, hitting and of course a dizzy bat race. They were in the parade of teams holding our Carlisle flag with pride. After the opening ceremonies the girls got some needed team bonding in the pool. Friday came and pool play was here we went 1-1. Saturday was a rain filled day with the wait and see when we play. We got our morning game in and won 11-3. Then we played our 11am game at 7:10 pm. Luckily we won (7-1) or we would have had to play at 11:30 Saturday night. Sunday came and we started our first game at 9:40 Sunday morning and ended at around 11pm. The girls played 5 games. We found ourselves in the losers bracket after our 3rd game but came back strong to make it to the championship game, however we came up short. Many of us got home around 2-3 in the morning but all was worth the chance to play for the championships. For the weekend we had many great things happen on the field. On the mound we had Mary Baldwin and Maddy Hermon. Mary came away with 22 strikeouts. She faced over 120 batters for the weekend. She had one of her best games of the year facing a very good Nebraska team. She was able to only allow 10 batters for the game throwing a variety of pitches with a smile. Maddy had a great performance on the mound in our second game against the Coyote Fastpitch on Sunday. Maddy shut them down putting the Wildcats into the championship game. Mary Grace Wachal was the work horse for the team catching all games but a few innings on Friday. She had some great stops saving us from runs. She makes it look so easy. Our defense was superb. Mallory Adams had an outstanding glove making many pop fly catches in key points on Sunday. Taylor See-Palar was unstoppable at short stealing a line drive hit and many more grounders. Annie Johnson had a quick hot glove on 3rd saving the balls and the runners. Melissa Free was like a vacuum on first not letting anything get by her. Our outfielders had more action on Sunday. One of the key catches was made by Payton Keeney in an overtime game with runners on 1st and 2nd a hard line drive pop to her to end and save the game. Madison Miller, Courtney Carr ,Maddy and Channing Johnson all got some action making great stops and getting the ball in from the outfield. Our bats are what always comes threw. Many teams think if they get through the top of the line up they are safe but not for the Wildcat team. Top to bottom we are strong. All the girls were hitting and even bunting, some of our girls that always hit away even saw the bunt sign. Wildcats used total team work to get the job done! Our bunt leader was Mary Grace with (5) , Maddy (4), Taylor (3), Mary (2), Annie (1), Courtney (1). The big sticks were also making the teams think twice about pitching it to us. Mary had a big bat with 9 singles and 2 triples with clearing the bases both times. Taylor came away with 8 singles and 1 triple. Plus showed her speed on the bases turning a bunt into a score. Payton turned her bat on racking up 7 singles, they never knew if she was going to slap or hit it away. Melissa had 6 singles, Mary Grace 3 singles and a triple, Madison 3 singles and a key sacrifice fly to center, Mallory and Courtney all added 3 singles a piece. Maddy and Annie came away with 2 and Channing had a big single ending the game. Our opposition did not know if we were hitting or bunting but no matter who was up to bat we knew we could score. We had a great opportunity to bat all 11 girls and we were tough 1-11. The girls had a great year! They had many accomplishments. One of the biggest is in EVERY TOURNAMENT the Wildcats found their way to the championship game. We may not have always gotten first but they never gave up. Getting there was half the fun!!! Everywhere the girls and parents went whether it was Des Moines, Grimes, Kansas City or even the restaurants we got compliments on our team behavior and play. Wildcats black showed everyone the true meaning of playing with pride and respect for the game. We can't say enough about how proud we are of the girls! WILDCAT BLACK ENDED THE SEASON WITH 2 FIRST PLACE TITLES AND 4 SECOND PLACE FINISHES WITH A RECORD OF 30-13. WILDCAT ATTITUDE!!!!
| Our streak ended as the Wildcats had not lost a pool play game in 5
tournaments. It was okay though because the end result was 1st place
for the Wildcats. The girls did not have a great Saturday but when
bracket play came on Sunday the girls showed how they could play! Our
offense had many hits but one big one came from Melissa Free with a
HOMERUN! Taylor had 9(IB),1 (2B) and 1(3B), Mallory went for 4(1B), Mary had 6(1B),Annie 5(1B),Melissa5(1B) ,Mary grace 4(1B),1 (2B), 1
(3B),Payton 8(1B),Maddy 3(1B), Kelsey Hocket 2(1B),1 (2B) and 1 (3B),
Channing 2(1B) and Abby 1(1B). On defense Mary and Maddy were on pitching duty. Mary had 21 strikeouts
and Maddy had 4. Saturday was not pretty for Mary. Maddy came in on Saturday and did a great job. On Sunday Mary faced the mound again
pitching 2 of the games back to back for 12 innings of ball . Way to
battle. Mary grace did a great job saving many of the balls working
behind the plate.
On defense on Sunday we came back to playing Wildcat defense not
making mistakes. Bug , Mallorina and Annie had a lot of action throwing
to Melissa at first. Mary also saw a lot of action accumulating many
outs from the mound. One infield highlight was when Annie on her knees
at 3rd throwing a girl out at first. The wildcats added an out by total
team work from Bug, Annie and Mallory in a run down getting the out.
Annie had a hot glove with a line drive catch and a quick tag to double
up the runner. In the outfield this weekend, Kelsey,Payton and Maddy all
had great catches. Channing and Abby all did a great job!
Way to finish
girls we could have given up after Saturday but you showed what Wildcat
Attitude is all about. Now on to Kansas City we need to bring the ATTITUDE WITH US. GET R ACCOMPLISHED!!!
| In Kansas City at the Hawaiian Fest the girls played very good teams from Missouri and Kansas. The girls played 6 games that weekend. Winning all but the championship game. But for the girls it was much more than just ball. They had a great time swimming, making shirts and hanging out at the hotel. We decorated our dugout with flowers and palm trees had matching hand made shirts and socks. The BIG KUHANA(Scott) got in on the fun. While playing on Saturday there was a D-J in the background and lots of fun for all. The little brothers and sister got to enjoy the weather with the dunk tank and slide at the ball park. Our offense was as warm as the weather and it was hot! Taylor See-Palar 7 Singles, Mallory Adams 3 Singles, Mary Baldwin 2 singles,1 2B and (2) 3B, Annie Johnson 6 singles, Melissa Free 6 singles,(1) 2B, Mary Grace Wachal 5 singles,Maddy Hermon 2 singles, Madison Miller 4 singles, Courtney Carr 2 singles and Channing Johnson 2 singles. For the defense we had Mary and Maddy sharing time on the mound. For the weekend Mary had 22 strikeouts and Maddy struck out 15. Mary Grace spent the majority time behind the plate with some relief from Annie. Most outs came from Bug and shortstop and Mallorina at 2nd. Annie and Melissa had some great put outs from 3rd. The outfield didn't see much action this weekend. Channing, Courtney and Madison all did great jobs always backing up the plays and getting the balls in. A couple highlights was a throw out from Madison at center to Annie on 3rd and another time we doubled up for outs Bug to Melissa at first back to home to M-G. The girls had a great weekend. Can't wait till next time in Kansas City!!! | | |
| The Wildcats had a shorten tourney due to rain. They came out slow on Saturday but came away with 2 wins and the #1 seed. The girls battled the heat and wind. First game was against Ankeny Storm. The girls came into the last inning losing 1-3. Wildcats did not give up scoring 3 runs to came away with the win. The inning was started with Mary hitting to get on and Annie, Melissa, Mary Grace,Payton and Maddy all hitting to score the runs to win the game. Bug, Mallory, Abby and Madison all put the ball in play. Mary was on the mound striking out 6 and M-G was behind the plate. Annie had 2 plays for outs at 3rd and Bug had 2 from short stop. Maddy made a running catch for a great out in the outfield.
The second game of the day was right after the Ankeny game. Our girls did a great job to regroup and come away with the win. They played Mac and won 8-1. Our bats continued where we left off. With 10 base hits. On the mound was Maddy striking out 5 with Annie behind the plate. Annie got a girl out trying to get 3rd throwing to Melissa. Mary had 2 unassisted out from 1st. Bug got one at short and Mallory from 2nd. Channing was hustling each play for great back ups on first. Madison and Abby had a quite weekend in the outfield but all showed lots of hustle. Sunday the girls claimed the Trophy and the team trophy! Great Job girls.
